ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — The university’s School of Education encourages the public to join, via Zoom, the four sessions of its Spring Forum 2021.
The first presentation, “Navigating a New Normal: Everyday Mental Health During a Pandemic,” is scheduled for Wednesday, 6-7:30 p.m., and features a panel of SBU faculty and mental health providers. The link for Wednesday is https://sbu.zoom.us/j/93081612452?pwd=OGxqcUVaN3IySjlqcXQwUndjVFlvZz09.
According to a posting on the School of Education website, the forum is designed to explore issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion with the intention of underscoring the importance of continuing education and meaningful dialogue as means to unify a divided nation.
Wednesday’s presenters will be:
- Dr. Latoya Pierce, associate professor, executive director of counselor education, and Spring Forum 2021 coordinator;
- Dr. Rebecca Scherer, assistant professor of counselor education;
- Dr. Alison Bourdeau, assistant professor of counselor education;
- Dr. Whitney McLaughlin, assistant professor of counselor education;
- Dr. Ashley Luedke, assistant professor of counselor education;
- Dr. Carmella Bartimole, mental health counselor,
- Justyn Smith, M.S., licensed professional counselor and Ph.D. candidate
The second, third and fourth sessions will feature academics from other universities.
Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University Dr. Rupert W. Nacoste, winner of the UNC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence Award, will present “How to Not Respond When a Friend Reveals a Mental Health Condition” on Feb. 23, 6-7:30 p.m.,
Dr. Kimetta R. Hairston, who is affiliated with Administration, Academics and Virtual Engagement at Bowie State University in Maryland and an experienced curriculum specialist in higher education, will present “From Faculty to Leadership — A Black Woman’s Experience In Higher Education” on March 23, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Dr. Beatrice Adera, associate professor and special education department chair at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, will present “Teaching In Turbulent Times: Creating a Positive School Climate to Promote Healing and Learning,” April 27, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
